The beautiful healing art of reiki originated in Japan and is now practiced by millions of people worldwide. Reiki was founded by Mikao Usui in the 1920's and became popular in the Western world through the teachings of Chiyrio Hayashi and his student Hawayo Takata.

The Reiki we practice at our clinic is exactly the way it was taught by Hayashi Sensei. It is refreshingly simple and has not been tainted by Western or new age thought.

     After the war, Reiki faded out publicly in Japan due to political reasons, however, some people continued to practice the way it was originally taught in their homes with their families. 

Leaders of Western Reiki tried to track down the roots of original Reiki in Japan but found very little information about anyone who had been directly initiated by Usui or Hayashi Sensei and assumed there was no one left teaching or practicing.

However, my Sensei Frank Arjava Petter was told about one lady, Chiyoko Yamaguchi, who had been initiated by Hayashi Sensei and had been practicing reiki at home since 1938, the way it was originally taught! Her son, Tadao, really wanted to pass on what his mother had learned directly from Hayashi Sensei as accurately as possible, and so in 1999 the Jikiden Reiki Institute was born.
